Question
How to get 2009 map update?
The Halfords website advertises the S80D with free 2009 map update. On the Navman website seems to be no link to get this and the local Halfords store manager does not know anything about ths.

go to navman.com/futureproof. there you will be asked to register your S80 purchase. Navman will then send you a confirmation mail and explaining how it works. Bought mine today, there was no information about it but on the Halfords web site pictures for the Navman there was a picture of the voucher with the web address on.

The Navman S80 has it’s own speaker, the handsfree function works entirely independently of the car stereo system

Question
Speed Cameras installed?
The features says it has Safety Cameras, but the * is not 100% clear to me if this works 'out the box' or it needs activating at £34.95 before use?

Happy to pay £34.95 in 12 months time to keep it going, but not to get it going from new!

Safety camera data comes pre-installed on Navman sat nav devices giving you warnings of camera locations 'out of the box'. On our latest products, the S-Series, safety camera data is provided as a free 12 month trial (you will need to purchase a subscription to download the very latest safety camera data). These models will also intelligently warn of cameras based on direction of travel and your speed relative to the local limit at that location.

My experience, they are pretty much up to date. There has only been one instance where the road has not been up to date. All the new roads in my area seem to be on there.

Having contacted Navman about this, there is going to be an update. It is at an additional cost though, so you could spen nearly £200 to get the product and up to date maps.

Question
navman 80
hi,

I just went in to your Cok branch to buy teh Navman 80 and was told the maps of ireland were not very good.UK and europe were the best. Obviously living in ROI I'd like to knowit works well here.
Can you provide feedback on this? I read all the reviews but not one from ROI available.

Thanks,
Jim

Jim,

I live in the UK but I'm formerly from Dublin.

The S80 works great in the UK and Europe, and last year (2008) I used it a fair bit in Dublin and on a roadtrip to/from Belfast. In Ireland I noticed no issues at all, the mapping has really come back up to speed in the last few years.

The mapping data is generally sourced from a third party, Teledata for example - and you may find if you do have an issue on one unit, it'll be just the same on another.

In my experience though, you'll have no issues. But bear in mind, the traffic data via TMC may not be supported in Ireland.

Regards
