No unfortunately as the chassis points are unsuitable. You can use a roof or towball mounted carrier with this vehicle

Hi, I just bought this cycle carrier and have fitted it to a Peugot 206.

To answer your question, no, you can't open the boot.

The rack is hung over the rear of the car using a dumb-bell type arrangement - the dumb-bells are inside the hatch of the car and the straps fall outside. With the boot closed, the weight of the rack will then pull the straps taught and tighten the dumb-bells against the seal/hatchback of the car. If you were to try to open the boot, this may pull the dumb-bells out of alignment and you would not be able to close the boot again. Also the lower straps connect to the chasis of the car (or tow hitch or similar) so that the rack is tightly mounted from top and bottom - these straps would have to be slackened to open the boot.

The instructions expressly say not to open the boot with the rack mounted.

If however you still are interested in the product, I would say that the rack can be quickly unmounted and re-mounted (possibly <10mins?) if you wished to access the boot. It is only a matter of slackening a few straps.

I have just fitted to an XC60 with a detachable tow bar so I do not see why it would not fit the XC90.

The Halfords Value Rear Low Mount 2 Cycle Carrier is unsuitable for your Volvo XC90 as is the case for all Halfords Rear Mount Cycle Carriers due to the horizontally split hatch. We advise the use of either a roofmount carrier (which requires roofbars) or if your vehicle has a towbar, then this type of carrier is also suitable but please check the nose-weight of your vehicle.

The member of staff who served us said they could fit the bike carrier for us for an additional charge but we decided against it. Easy to fit ourselves.

Question
Difference between low and high mount cycle carriers?
Hi,
I have been looking at your low mount 2 bike carrier and your high mount 3 bike carrier. I'm trying to decide which to buy. What are the reasons for going for low mount or high mount?
Also, it seems that you have used the same photograph to iillustrate both on your website, the photo for the 2 bike low mount cycle carrier is in fact a 3 bike carrier and I think it's the high mount one?
Thanks...

The main difference between a low mount and a high mount cycle carrier is the height at which the bikes are carried. It is down to preference of the vehicle owner - High mount carriers generally allow the number plate and lights to be seen, therefore legally an additional lighting board is not required on a low mount carrier these are generally obscured requiring an additional ligting borad to be fitted.
If lights or number plates are obscured when any bike carrier is loaded then a lightboard and number plate is required, hence the growing popularity of roof mounted cycle carriers
