Question
Halfords Advanced Antifreeze
I have the following vehicles ;
1998 Rover 820 Vitesse Turbo Coupe
1992 Ford Sierra 2.0i DOHC GT Estate
1987 Ford Capri 1.6 Laser
I would like to drain all 3 cars coolant systems , flush them thoroughly with water ( I dont like chemical cleaners) and refill with this long life OAT ( organic ester technology) antifreeze rather than mess around with the old 2yr material that everybody forgets to change after 2 years and so corrosion starts.
Will I be OK as long as I fully drain and flush the 3 cars cooling systems and top up with 50% OAT. Please advise. Its no use asking Rover ( they went bust) and Fords today dont know what a Capri or Sierra is anymore . I do remember that both Capri and Sierra originally had red long life antifreeze when new, but cant say for the Rover.

on Halfords Advanced Antifreeze & Coolant Concentrate 5 Litres
answer 1
dont use the advanced unless you know what the rads and matrix are made out of, if its copper/brass, use the blue stuff, red/pink stuff will eat the radiators and matrix. Got the tshirt, well the pig of a job in changing the matrix.

The Ford specification for coolant for both the Sierra and the Capri suggests they were originally filled with the older silicate based type of antifreeze therefore if you were following the manufacturers requirements to the letter then you should in fact use the standard Halfords Antifreeze & Coolant for the two Ford vehicles rather than the OAT based alternative. That said we don't believe the OAT based product will do any harm in any of the 3 vehicles mentioned provided the cooling systems are properly flushed before refilling.
