Petrol Volvo V70's of that era mainly called for an ACEA A2 or A3 10W40. Halfords Fully Synthetic 5W40 will more than meet these requirements and, being a 5W40 fully synthetic should give you greater protection.

We are not 100% sure which exact vehicle you have but our database shows that all Smart Roadsters built after 2003 could be lubricated with a 5W or 10W product meeting MB 229.1, 229.3 or 229.5. As Halfords 5W40 Fully Synthetic is a 5W oil meeting MB 229.1 it should be suitable.

No, this would not be a good choice for your diesel powered vehicle. If your car is fitted with a diesel particulate filter (some but not all were) then you should use Halfords 5W30 VW/Audi Fully Synthetic 5W30 as this is a special product designed to protect this delicate filter in the exhaust stream. If no DPF is fitted then you could also use Halfords 5W/40 Fully Synthetic Diesel Oil. If in doubt you would not go wrong with the 5W30 VW/Audi Fully Synthetic Oil. To answer your other question - yes fully synthetic oils are miscible with semi-synthetics and mineral oils but you tend to lose their increased benefits by mixing them.

If your VW Bora is running on a fixed service interval then Halfords 5w40 Fully Synthetic Oil would be suitable however if the vehicle is running on a variable service interval then you should use Halfords 5w30 VW/Audi Fully Synthetic instead. If you are in any doubt then the latter would be suitable in both cases as it is the higher performance grade.
