No! You need to use a fully synthetic oil to Long Life 04 (BMW) specification which should be 5w-30 or 5w-40.
I would use Mobil 1 ESP or Castrol Edge, both of which are available in 5w-30 and meet BMW's specification.

Question
About Halfords branded oil
Is Halfords oil to spec. WSS M2C913-B as good as the Castrol equivalent? The price differential for a 4/5 litre container is very great indeed so do the same warranties apply as to the Castrol product? I have a new Ford C-Max Titanium diesel.

This should be fine. Your car uses 5w-30 oil. The halfords oil specifically meets Fords' specification. Personally I would go for the Mobil version: http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_721961_langId_-1_categoryId_165581#dtab

Same oil specification for the 190 and 230 BHP engines - 5w-30. Go for the best you can afford and definitely fully synthetic.

5w-30 is the correct oil for your ENGINE (same oil for 1.1 & 1.3 engines). The 75w-80 specification you are referring to is for GEARBOX oil.
I would personally go for the Mobile brand. We have used Castrol oil in smaller capacity Mazda engines before and it seems to make them noisier.

5w30 is an engine oil spec. 75w80 is a gearbox or differential oil specification - the two are not the same. There should be a reference to engine oil spec somewhere in the manual.
