I have some cycle transfers that can only be overcoated with oil-based lacquer. Acrylic or celulose varnishes will destroy the transfers. Not sure if this lacquer is oil based or not. It doesn't say, so beware!

Ideally your meant to lay down the laquer after about 15-20mins of the base coat going on. You should still be able to use a 1200 grit wet/dry to key the surface and add a new coat of clear though.

Primer is (2 - 3 coats) 15 mins between each coat, then left overnight before black
Black is "plasti-kote" (3-4 coats) upto 30 mins between each coat. left overnight before lacquer
Thin coats each time
never wrinkled going from primer to black but it does from black to lacquer

answer 2
Is it all Halfords standard paint/primer or wheel paint that's being used? If so they are all acrylic so they are 100% compatible with each other.
If its another brand of paint it may not be compatible, particularly if its an alkyd of some type.
How many coats of primer and black have been used?
How long was left between each coat?
If lots of very thick coats have been applied it could be a case of solvent entrapment but this tends to cause pin-holing rather than wrinkling.

Yes - to remove the laquer runs you will need to rub down carefully with a fine grade wet and dry paper - be careful not to damage the pearlescent paint.
Laquer will take several days to fully cure - do not spray in damp or wet conditions - dry and warm conditions are best.

It might not be the best thing to use but it would probably work fine. Just be sure to avoid spraying on the strings or moving parts.

Question
finish?

Yes the clear lacquer can be used over gloss for improved gloss,
durability and protection (although its not strictly required). It is
however essential over metallic and pearlescent finishes to ensure the correct colour match and to help protect the aluminium / mica pigments in these paints from the atmosphere. Use either lacquer.

Question
Is Clear Lacquer Spray suitable for furniture?
I have some pieces of cast iron furniture. I am stripping off the rust with Hammerite Rust Gel. Instead of painting, I want to polish the metal to a high shine. Is your clear lacquer spray suitable for covering clean iron so that it does not rust in a normal domestic atmosphere?
