Yes Halfords do offer VAT exemption on medical items. For most mobility products, if you are registered disabled or chronically sick or if you are buying for someone who is, you are entitled to a refund of the VAT paid on your purchase. You will need to provide copies of:
1. Proof of purchase 2. Proof of delivery, if a home delivery item
Where a VAT refund is due, it will normally be made within 28 days of receipt of the correct information. For more information on eligibility, consult notice 701/7 VAT reliefs for disabled people or contact the National Advice Service on 0845 010 9000.
Complete the Eligibility Declaration Form available from Halfords stores with the overleaf and send this with copies (not originals) of the required documents to:
Financial Reporting, Halfords, Icknield Street Drive, Washford West, Redditch, Worcestershire, B98 0DE Halfords may need to contact you to request further evidence that you are disabled should the H.M. Revenue & Customs challenge your application for VAT relief.

Customers who are registered disabled or chronically sick are entitled to a refund of VAT paid on most mobility products.
This is administered centrally rather than in our stores to avoid store colleagues having to verify a customer's entitlement, to ensure consistency and control over the process, and so we have records on file in case of any queries from HMRC.
Customers complete a simple form and declaration, post this to our Finance Department and they post the customer a cheque.
