My friend has a TomTom (not sure which modle) and it tells you what speed limit is the road. Handy if you have missed a road sign for what ever reason does this TomTom have this feature haswell? (if so is this is a standard feature in every tomtom) thanks

Yes, it does show the speed limit and will warn you if you go over it too (you can change this in the settings menu).

Don't know about other current models. Navigator 6 for my PDA from 2007 doesn't do it.

I have only used The top of the range Tom Tom sat navs fot many years and these will tell you the road speed and should you exceed these speeds the machine will warn you either by a flashing light or audible warning , these warnings show not only the speed limit but also the speed you are travelling at however this does not work if the system does not know the speed limit of the road but you will know this by the machine showing you to be on an un-named road , be warned though road speed limits change constantly so keep your machine as up to date as possible

The 1005 displays speed limit for road and I found it to be accurate changing as I passed from one limit to another. The device can be set to sound an alarm should your vehicle exceed the posted limit and it warned of fixed speed camera locations.

In terms of the display options the TTG range offer a great deal of flexibility and will provide you with the information you have indicated you would like to see.

Although on the new devices they appear to have lost the Compass that indicated the direction of travel.

Yes, you can select this data to be display at the bottom right of the screen. I have found it to be bang on accurate. You can also have ETA displayed along with count down mileage.

Can i add POI's and start up screens etc to this device?

On my GO920 i can add POI's (ie halfords stores or Tesco's etc etc) I can also add start up screens and shut down screens, and different voices etc. These can be put onto my GO920 via "TomTom Home". Is this function available with the GO1000 series? If so, how is it done?

Yes is it done via the new TomTom software on your PC. In your system tray click the TomTom icon and it is in the list. Custom I think it is called.

Please find the response we got from TomTom :-

We have recently released update for sharing 3rd party POIs and these will be made available in a phased manner. you may visit www.tomtom.com/13814 for more information on shared POIs now available on MyTomTom.

Also, Startup images can be changed on the device via MyTomTom. and settings on the device.

However, currently the feature to update the device on MytomTom is having some technical problems and our technical team is working diligently to resolve this issue.

Shortly after this issue is resolved, many of the supported features will be available for update via MyTomTom.

Traffic Updates

This unit is advertised as updating its traffic reports every two minutes. Mine does not seem to update at all until it is turned off and back on.
For example if a new traffic incident on my route is bradcast on the radio - it would not show on this unit. If I turn it off and back on the incident will appear. Can anyone suggest what is wrong?

Hi - this unit does not have any extras to plug in. I beleive the signal is not FM but a sort of telephone signal.

Please find below a response from TomTom :-
As I see that traffic information gets updated when you reset the device, it seems the device needs to be updated or it is advisable to once try 'Factory Reset the device' using these steps, this will help us resolve the issue.
On the TomTom GO LIVE 1005 menu tap Settings.
- Tap on Reset Factory Settings. Please note: This will remove any personal settings such as Favourites
- Once the device displays the language selection screen, please hold down the power button until you hear the TomTom drum noise
- Now enter all your required preferences.
- Allow the device to obtain a GPS fix.

This can be installed on any device with 2GB or memory except the Via and Go 1000 series at the moment.
The TomTom 910 should have had USA preinstalled. You can check if it is installed: This can be found by tapping on Change Preferences and then on Manage Maps -> Switch Map. You can then select the map you require, e.g. 'Western Europe' and it will load up.
If not you can buy a new map in Home2 and download it: : http://www.tomtom.com/services/serv...
