Providing it has been left running long enough to get down to a suitable temperature and that the lid remains closed, it should stay cool for a few hours after unplugging. I wouldn't risk a choc ice in there though!

The coolboxes are designed to be actively cooling the contents not passively insulating them. The temperature at which the contents remain at and for how long after the coolbox has been switched off will depend on what the contents are, their volume, the temperature to which they have been cooled previously, the ambient temperature etc. etc. With this number of variables it will vary considerably. If you are trying to prolong the effectiveness of the cooling after it has been switched off, then I suggest placing ice bricks in the coolbox.

I suppose the box could be propped up on its side as the lid has a clasp to stop it falling open but I don't think it is designed for it.
I don't know about the ambient temperature unfortunately.

Yes it makes a soft purring noise, not as loud as the Campingaz coolbox does though and it switches on and off. We kept ours in the awning outside and you could hear it switching on and off when we were in there. It didn't bother us, but nobody slept in there.

this is not a refrigerator, it is a cool box. All the food and drink put into the cool box should be well chilled beforehand. And it's sensible to put in some freezer blocks too. The cool box only cools to 16 degrees below the outside ambientt air temperature. Remember, it's not a fridge, only a cool box. You should read the handbook that is provided!

providing you have cooled the box beforehand the beer will cool as it would in any other fridge.

A chiller will try and keep items which are already cool..cool! Putting items at room temperature (18-24C) will probably only cool them a couple of degrees. You are best chilling first in a fridge (or buy your drinks from a chilled cabinet) and then placing them in the chiller/cool box.

We left ours running for nearly 3 hours in the back of our car while we were travelling but is was not in a boot. It would be fine I think on the back seat of the car while travelling but not in a locked stationary car on a hot day.

Although the Halfords Electric Coolbox 40 litre can be used in a car boot the box may be less effective at cooling. The box cools to a number of degrees below the surrounding ambient temperature. In hot weather a car boot will too hot for the coolbox to be effective. We recommend using in the car's cabin.
