Use Castrol Greentec cleaner instead - will not damage the O rings but leaves the chain clean and shiney after a quick going over with a cloth. Don't forget to re-lube!

This is the intended purpose of Motorcycle Degreaser and should easily remove any dirt and grease from your chain.
