Rinse them as they are only plastic straws.

You can buy more.

There are about six in the box.

QUOTE FROM HALFORDS WEBSITE - "AlcoSense unit shows your level of intoxication in either micro-grams per litre of blood or % BAC (percent of blood alcohol content) " DOES THIS MEAN YOU HAVE THE CHOICE TO SWITCH DISPLAY BETWEEN THESE UNITS OR DO YOU NOT KNOW WHICH WILL BE SUPPLIED UNTIL IT ARRIVES

Mine came with %BAC (blood alcohol). I think they all do. The units are fixed, and this is what the police ones use. I looked up on wikipedia what BAC equivalents are in terms of drinks and the instructions also explain the legal limit for driving.

answer 6
The Alcosense Elite Pocket Breathalyser allows the user to choose their preferred unit of measurement. This gives the user the functionality to use the breathalyser in multiple countries where the legal limit is measured in micro-grams rather than % BAC

yes, they are just straws that you could buy anywhere, they just need to be about the right diameter. You get 5 with it, and you can wash them.

They are straws, same diameter size as MacDonalds, KFC etc so just collect some of those and cut with a scissors. Or with originals you can just wash them out and let them dry.

It selfs cleans and you calbrate by dousing a reader with a mix of wine & water to ensure it has a base level.

It is already calobrated by the manufacturer.

It can also be sent back to them for calobration, but there is a charge.

There is an ASC function that they suggest you run every week, if little use, what this does is clean the sensor ie removes any contaminates. The guide with the unit is comprehensive easy to understand and suggest recalibration every year. Have a look at theirWEB site and you can read all the guides.

Question
Calibration
I have read that some breathalysers need to be calibrated every few months in order to provide an accurate reading.

Is that the case with this one?

The AlcoSense Singles NF are NF approved for use in France. The AlcoSense Elite is not NF approved as it is set to work with the UK limits which are higher than the French ones. However, what I did was buy the AlcoSense Singles from here and the Elite. I keep the singles in the car to comply with the new French law, but use the Elite to check myself so I don't have to keep on buying the AlcoSense singles tubes. The alcosense elite still gives you an accurate reading, just that even when you're in france it will only say don't drive if your over the UK limit of 0.8 not the french 0.5 limit.

This product is not NF Approved, so would not comply with the French breathalyser requirements. We would recommend the AlcoSense twin pack (311784) instead if you are travelling to France.

You can read either micro grams/litre of blood or % Blood Alcohol Concentration. The ratio between blood alcohol levels and breath alcohol levels is a fixed value and therefore a conversion between the breath levels to blood levels can easily and reliably be done.

answer 2
The AlcoSense™ Elite Pocket Breathalyser measures the concentration of alcohol vapour in a persons breath. Contrary to popular belief the alcohol is not coming from residue in the person's mouth but is actually evaporating from the blood that passed through the lungs when breathing. The amount of alcohol evaporating from the lungs is directly proportional to the amount of alcohol in the persons blood stream making it possible to accurately judge the persons level of intoxication.
