My car is a CHRYSLER PT CRUISER CRD LIMITED (2148cc DIESEL, 5 Door HATCHBACK). the battery is located under the front passenger seat and when fitted, the battery is on its side. I have been told that this needs to be a gel battery to stop leaks . The batteries recommended are bosch 12v silver hsb075 and halfords calcium. please confirm they are safe to be fitted on their side and will not leak battery acid nor expel toxic fumes being that the battery is inside the seat compartment

The HSB075 needs to be fitted upright despite being maintenance free so that it can gas during the charging cycle. It isn't suitable for your CRD Diesel PT cruiser. If you can't locate a suitable Gel battery it's probably best to an original aftermarket product.

Some diesel PT Cruisers have leak-proof Optima batteries to cope with this fitment. Lead acid batteries are not suitable for these vehicles and yours will be one of this type. This applies to some, but not all, diesel PT Cruisers.

The ideal battery for your vehicle should be a US spec Bosch Optima (part number RTR4.2). Some manufacturers suggest 086 as an alternative but this could be too long for the space you have, or 013 which would fit but does not deliver the correct Ah value. We do not stock the Optima battery but your local Halfords store may be able to order one for you.
