its ready straight out the box but will need to update later as maps are very out of date and you will also require a minimum 2gb micro sd card to get all the latest maps on as internal memory is insufficient

Journey calculator
Does this Sat Nav tell you how many miles left on the journey? Also does it give ETA. I really want these specs, so need ot know if this one does have both these features.

Yes to miles left.
If you have more than one destination then you are given the ETA to next and ETA to final (or time left rather than ETA as an option in settings).

Question
Where do I find the activation code for Navigon 4310 Max Plus
Navigon Fresh software requires to Enter Activation Code in order to complete the registration of my one day new Navigon 4310 Max Plus unit. Where do I find the activation code ?

Also after I click 'The Latest Map Guarantee' in 'My System' tab of Navigon Fresh I get 'the Latest Map Guarantee has expired' message, which should not be the case on a newly purchased unit.

The activation codes for the 2 years maps and 12 months Safety cameras are on a flyer in the box.
You don't need the Latest Maps as you have 2 years of Maps included. Put in the Maps code and download the latest maps.

The Plus includes Text to Speech and Speech for RDS Traffic too.
I think TtS is now offered as a free upgrade on the Navigon website for other 4310 models.

You can use it without plugging in (as a pedestrian for example).
If you want RDS Traffic then the car charger lead needs to be plugged in as it is used as a radio aerial. But you don't need to connect the lead to a socket eg If you just want to check Traffic in the house.

Question
SatNav systems
Hi,
I need to buy a new portable/car SatNav. I'm interested in the Navigon 4310 and TomTom XL IQ EU. Having had several systems in the past, a must-have for me is a unit that displays on the main display and without having to access other screens (only to set-up as a default setting) a compass, distance still to travel to destination, and arrival time at destination.
Can you please help me decide between these two units and advise whether either of these manufacturers provide this facility. I'm keen to know this because my Garmin Nuvi doesn't do this. Thanks, John

The Navigon 4310 Max Plus has a (small) heading giving rough direction such as N, NE, E, SE, etc.
Distance and ETA (or alternatively Time Remaining) can be shown on lower right side as also can current speed and height above MSL.

Use of Safety camera info is illegal in some countries so you have to turn this on in Settings. There is a note about how to do this in the Quick Start leaflet.

Spoke to Navigon this morning. Apparantly this is a problem with the 43 series caused by the current software update. The maps work, but not all the cameras show. They are working on a solution.

answer 4
You need to go into the
settings menu and scroll through until you find safety camera option and
then click on the right of the screen to activate.

Failing this I would try the Navigon customer helpline 0871-2880154 to see if they can
resolve the issue as speed cameras are normally pre-loaded and shouldn't
need to be purchased unless the unit is over 1 year old.

Think it is one or the other. If you have the house number why can't you just put in the Street name as well?

The trick is to enter an incomplete postcode e.g. DE22 1 omitting the last digit or two from the full 7 digit code. When you press the 'tick' it will then request road name and house number.

Typing the full code takes you to the centre of the area covered by that code which is useful if you don't have road and/or number information and for industrial estates etc.

This can sometimes occur if the postode is entered incorrectly.
Please try entering the postcode without a space i.e. xxxxxx not xxx xxx.
