Question
FM traffic antenna
My Halfords 1390T has come with what I believe is an antenna extension which I believe plugs into the FM traffic receiver. Is this correct, and do I need this extension plugged in all of the time in order to receive FM traffic?

There is a small socket for the antenna lead in the plastic block a few inches down power lead. I have always plugged this in and found some of the recieved data useful but now always 'in time' particularly when trying to decide which way to round the M25.

answer 5
It plugs into the box thing on the power lead that goes into the sat nav. Then you use the suction cups to stick it to your windscreen. Not sure if you need to have it plugged in all the time, but I suppose if you really want FM traffic reports then best leave it plugged in. BTW: If you haven't already, go to the Garmin website, and download the 'full' manual, which is far more in-depth than the quick start guide that comes with the unit.

answer 6
This is indeed an FM extension cable, you will need this to pick up a satellite signal, the Unit will pick up traffic without but the reception will be intermittent. I would strongly recommend having it plugged in all the time to receive traffic.

answer 4
It is not possible to change the vehicle type on the device but there is
some software that can loaded to help you avoid smaller roads. If
you go to www.lowbridges.com you can purchase
software with data regarding low bridges, weight and width restrictions.

We do have trucking device - the nuvi 465T - which can used
if you have a larger vehicle. You can enter the vehicle
profile to allow the device to calculate routes on the most appropriate
roads. Unfortunately this is not possible on the 1390T.

Only UK ones come with the unit. You can purchase others for European countries from Garmin.
Didn't bother myself, speed limits are shown for France, Holland, Belgium, Germany, Poland and Lituania that I know of, so assume the rest are the same. If you go over the speed limit it shows up in red. If in German on motorways, no speed limit shown on certain sections......... Fill your boots!

Question
Does the Garmin NUVI 1390T allow avoidance of Motorways without avoiding all major Roads?
eg My current NUVI 760 will not allow you to avoid using the M6 between Birmingham and Manchester and still use the A34, A500 etc. It takes you through all the city centres using as many B roads as possible.

The routing algorithms on the Nuvi 1390 will be the same as the Nuvi760.
When you choose to avoid Motorways/Highways it will avoid all roads that are classed as 70MPH which could include A roads.

Yes you can add additional stops.

When you first start your navigation, naturally, you select your destination and 1390T calculates the route. After this point if you want to add new via point you need to search for it without stopping the existing route.

When you found the new location it will show it on the map and there will be a Go button. Press the "Go" button. 1390T will ask you how you want to add the new location, as the new destination or a "Via Point".

If you select Via Point it will add it and restart routing.
