Question
I am about to start college doing motor mechanics and was wondering if these would be ideal for a beginner?

It would be fine for a beginner but while the quality is good for the price the build quality is not robust enough for day in and day out use. If you are serious about mechanics you're better off investing in serious kit. Buying cheap just means buying twice.

I was very impressed with the wide range of tools in this box. Not only is it fairly portable, everything is cushioned and has its own place in the drawers. In my own opinion, this would be an ideal starting place. I would have given eye teeth for a tool box like this when I was younger. Even with the tools I have amassed over the years to service my cars, I still bought this tool box. There are both imperial and metric tools - handy if your college course allows you to tackle the odd job at home with classic cars. Classic cars are still popular and not everyone who owns one, knows what to do if something needs fixed. Good luck on your course!

It would be a good, cheap start. I'd suggest that you only used it to get started though and that there are quite a few bits you'll need on top of this set.

Although this set is not designed for long term or heavy use it will provide you with a good range of tools to begin with. If when tools break you replace them with better quality products you will save the initial cost of buying many tools you may not need

There is a provision to lock with small padlocks under the latch should you wish, but are not included

It doesn't come with a lock but the lid could possibly be secured with very small padlocks. Personally I think this would be a waste of time. You're better off locking the door to the shed or keeping your tools in the house!

No. The ratchet handles wouldn't be strong enough even if you have a 26mm socket to fit them to.

Are the professional sockets guarenteed fof life ?

answer 1
These sockets are only meant for lightweight use. If you want a lifetime guarantee then you will have to purchase a much more expensive kit like snap - on etc. Just the socket wrench alone will cost you more than the cost of this whole kit.

answer 2
To be honest, at this price, don't think that these are 'Professional' tools. Halfords Professional range carry a higher price tag because they are made to a higher standard. These tools are very robust and, if used correctly, should last a long time if cared for.

These are NOT the Halford Professional range and have no "Lifetime" guarantee (you'd be lucky to get 3 months heavy use out of them). You get what you pay for after all!

235 Piece Dynamic Tool Chest does not contain Halfords Professional Tools and is not part of the Halfords Professional range. It is not covered by the Halfords Lifetime Guarantee.
