Halfords fitted my Exodus box to our Meriva & recommended I used the Thule lockable bar system and I've had no issue with it.

No, you will need roof bars attached to your rails via 'feet'.

It is standard for roof boxes to be fitted to roof bars that run the width of a vehicle. Vehicles with factory fitted rails will still need a foot pack and set of roof bars, such as Thule 757 foot pack and Thule 762 roof bars, to fit any roof mounted product such as a roof box. The exact foot pack and roof bars needed will depend on the vehicle. You can find a tool on the Halfords website that will identify what is needed, alternatively you can ask at any Halfords store for assistance. The Halfords Exodus 470L roof box requires a roof bar distance between 550mm and 980mm to properly mount it

If you have roof rails then you need roof mounts and roof bars. Best to buy Thule mounts as they come with locks as standard and fit nicely on my V70 rails. Roof bars can be Halfords as they are cheap but good enough.

You'll need a set of roof bars. If your car has fixing points (usually two points on each side of the roof into which you screw a small bolt) the kit you need will be different from those with no fixing points. With no fixing points the connections are similar to clamps which will secure to the roof just inside the top of the door areas.

Assuming an ML320 is part of the Mercedes-Benz M-class range that is fitted with roof railings as standard. To mount a roof box with the fittings supplied with it, a railings carrier for normal-sized roof railings and a roof bar are needed such as the Thule Rapid System 757 and the Thule Aero Bar 869. I have the new Thule aerobars that are wider than normal bars, but is the quick connect of this similar to Thules system and hence will work with the thule bars?

As far as I can see from mine the U bolts will fit any bars that are up to 2 inches wide and 1.25 inch deep approx.
