answer 2
A whistling noise will occur as a result of a combination of factors such as the vehicle design versus the roof box and/or the roof bar location. Quite often the whistle is not being generated by the roof box but rather the roof bars albeit sometimes caused by the presence of the roof box deflecting the airflow onto the roof bar. The aim would be to prevent the roof box being inline with the main airflow off of the vehicle windscreen; the Halfords store will try and mount the roof box as far back as is possible and/or move the roof bars further back on the roof that will have the same effect. It may be, however, that the end result is that the combination of vehicle, roof bars and roof box will not eliminate the whistle altogether, although an excessive whistle at 30mph is the worst case currently reported.
